Baby quilt pattern writing

I've been busy doing little bits of so many things so not a lot finished to share. I made another quilt and bumper set using the same pattern but changed it up by using different quilting patterns. I love the way it looks and so I decided to see if it was possible to write it as a pattern for anyone else to try.

It is a really modern print and I love the colours. I quilted the border this time for added interest. It consists of a bumper and quilt set.

 The quilting is very detailed again, but that's because I love quilting!

 I do wonder what it would look like with less detail.... maybe if I don't like a quilt I might try less!

So I am trying to write the step by step instructions and I have to tell you it isn't as simple as you think! Especially the measurements for the fabric, but I'm getting there!

Baby Felix arrives and his quilt is complete!

I've made it my tradition to make a quilt for the new babies of my friends and colleagues so on discovering a baby was on its way I got busy with a quilt!

Not pink or blue was my only clue on the colour scheme and so I hunted for a charm pack that said baby in some other colour way. And there I found it!

Where is the bear? They were everywhere! and can you spot the bunny?

I loved it! so inspired by fabric as usual I began with HST. Easy to make and variation comes with how you place them.

so I've been collecting broken dishes on Pinterest and so I started there. Swapping the ends out to make my basic block.

Then I arranged them in 4's and a star appeared!! Yes Yes Yes!

Then I needed to make these 9 blocks into a quilt! so I added 1 1/2 sashing between the 6 best.

It was narrow and tall so I added different width white borders to square it up a bit, then a lovely beige border to finish it off.

and I bought some labels! so I used one :)

Autumn inspired Tilda fabric

I was sat in a hotel bedroom browsing on my phone when up popped an Ebay listing showing some beautiful tilda fabric in autumn colours. I clicked buy straight away and when I got home, there was my little package of gorgeous fabric.

I had been looking at making a row quilt for a while now but so many other things get in the way. Lots of fruit inspired patterns caught my eye and the fabric colours said pears straight away. There wasn't enough fabric to make a row quilt but enough for several pears.

I drew out on squared paper my pear and measured it all carefully. I didn't know exactly how much to add for seam allowances so a bit of googling and some head scratching I had a plan. I decided the Tilda was too precious to chop for a tester so I pulled out some green polkadot that matched well and tried that. The stalk was difficult and I changed where my seams were at the stalk and leaf part so that it lay flatter but at last I was satisfied and took the rotary cutter to my Tilda fabric.

9 pears later I had a great pear quilt and a little fabric left over. I decided to make a squared border and chopped up my fabric into strips to piece then chop. I kept going till all the fabric was too small to make any more squares and fitted them as a pretty border around the edge.

Searching my stash for a binding and quick straight line walking foot quilting... it's all done! I definitely want pears in my row quilt!

Up onto ETSY it went! Cross fingers someone else loves it as much as me!

First Etsy Listing

So! Here I am attempting to sell my first quilt for real!

I made an Etsy shop to try and sell online. My shop is called RedhoodsSewingBasket (of course!) and I'm finding it very exciting!

I made a quilt from some beautiful fabric from Dashwood called Mori. It is red and pink with apples, houses and trees that inspired me to make a churn dash quilt.

I made 9 7 inch churn dash blocks and separated them with some 2 1/2 inch sashing. Then I added a Rose and Hubble polkadot border. I really like the way it frames a quilt and makes the colours come together as a theme.

Then it was free motion quilting time. I must make a video of this next time.

I decided to do some hearts in the centre of each block. Each is slightly different. Then I completed the quilting with a dense all over meander.

 So now I have to wait and see if it gets any interest at all! Keep your fingers crossed!
